STAGES Biennial 2023
Stages Biennial invites artists from across North America to select and research sites in Winnipeg to activate, respond to, or consider as a point of departure. Maduka has lived in Treaty One Territory for eight years. For her first significant public art installation, she traced her way back to a phrase she used to describe her paintings: My paintings are love letters to my community ︎
EXPO CHICAGO 2023
Select works from this series were presented at Fabienne Levy Gallery's booth at the 2023 edition of Expo Chicago. The vestige points of the series are conflict and autonomy–particularly youth autonomy. One of the inspirations for the subject is writing by scholar and critic Bell Hooks ︎
Self Addressed
For this landmark exhibition, Wiley invited a selection of contemporary African artists living throughout the globe to each produce a self-portrait. Together these portraits presented a new exploration of identity, perception, and self-regard within the global stage through the lens of figuration, exploring notions of perspective, authorship, and control within acts of expression that directly address the self ︎
