The Inadequacy of Adequate Preparation; 2022; oil on canvas; 6ft x 2ft
The foundation of Maduka's work is the liminal, transient space between the assessment of scenarios and the emergence of emotion in response to them. In this body of work, the experiences, journeys, and emotions, animated through the physicality of the aspiring, immigrating, or migrated bodies enduring them, stand as a map to the viewer.
Maduka focuses on longing and distance in this work. She teases at the human condition of inadequately predicting future versions of ourselves and our reality–Things that make life simultaneously sweet and painful. This exhibition marks Maduka’s first International exhibition, introducing her practice to a broader global audience.
